About bertie.stanford.edu
My machine, bertie.stanford.edu, was named in honor of my two favorite
Berties,
- Bertrand Russell, who once noted:
Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my
life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable
pity for the suffering of mankind.
- And Bertram Wooster (via P. G. Wodehouse), who once remarked:
He emitted a ringing guffaw, and at the raucous sound any spark of
compunction that might have been lingering in my bosom was quenched.
A boy to whom the raising of a lump the size of a golf ball on the
Wooster bean was a subject for heartless mirth deserved all that boot
toe could do to him.
